This is the big month, the month of my first Kickstarter!
Check it out here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jennymouse/neuroscience-picture-book-brian-the-brain-mind-trip
My Kickstarter will kick off at the Online Canadian Homeschool Conference on February 10 where I will be reading my new book as part of a live class for kids! Sign up to attend: https://canadianhomeschoolconference.com/aff/133/ (affiliate link). It’s only $17 for a lifetime pass and there are also free options available.
One of my biggest challenges with the Kickstarter has been staying motivated in the face of personal challenges. I have considered canceling the Kickstarter twice due to personal reasons, but decided to forge on. I am focused on running a Kickstarter while also prioritizing my own mental health.
One of the things I have noticed authors saying when they have run a Kickstarter is how mentally exhausting it is, and some of them claim to have made it through with only a thread of sanity left. My goal is that this Kickstarter will be a challenge and will leave me feeling mentally stretched, but in a way that strengthens my mind. If I find myself feeling like I’m reaching the point of insanity I will be taking a break. I advocate for kids’ mental health, and that advocacy has to lead with my example!
I am confident that my Kickstarter will succeed with your help. You are people I have met at the local farmers market just down the street from my home, through publishing social media groups where we have upheld and supported each other’s projects, and many of you are my direct family and friends. You are a part of this. It didn’t take long for this project to go from my book to OUR BOOK. WE are going to make a difference TOGETHER!

What I need most of all right now is a group of cheerleaders to pump me up and keep me motivated. Don’t let me forget that this book is for you, and your kids!
Happy Psychology Month!
February is a month to recognize Canadian psychologists and the contributions they have made to knowledge about the human mind.

Highlights of the Past Month
I owe a big thank you to Richmond Hill Library for inviting me to do an author visit. We had 500 students log in and they were a delight! I had so many questions about the brain that I had to answer a list of them after class.
Head space is AVAILABLE in store at the Makers Mark in Newmarket!
Book 2 Updates
Book 2 is coming along! We have met some hiccups but are persevering. My team’s mental health continues to be my main priority in these trying times. The release date is still tentatively set for May, stay tuned for updates!
One of the formatting considerations I spent quite a bit of time on this month was fonts. I wanted to find a new font for book two that was more legible for young kids who are starting to read. It is surprisingly hard to find a font with lowercase letter “a” printed the way we teach young children to write it.
As mentioned my Kickstarter for Mind Trip, an exploration of the parts of the brain for kids, will kick off on February 10th. Find the Kickstarter here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jennymouse/neuroscience-picture-book-brian-the-brain-mind-trip
